Location: Cardiff (Hybrid working)

Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time

The Opportunity

An established Tier 1 construction business is seeking a Construction Planner to join its preconstruction team, supporting projects across South Wales. This role offers a blend of office-based work in Cardiff and flexible home working.

Working closely with senior planning leadership, you will play a key role in developing high-quality project programmes and supporting tender submissions. You’ll be involved in a diverse portfolio of construction projects of up to £70m in value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed and practical project programmes, ensuring a strong focus on buildability and commercial awareness
  • Prepare clear and concise planning reports to support bid submissions
  • Collaborate with supply chain partners to inform and strengthen tender programmes
  • Produce structured and easy-to-understand project timelines and schedules
  • Contribute to internal and client-facing presentations
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and cost-effective solutions during the tender phase
  • Provide supporting documentation such as programme narratives and methodology statements
  • Maintain a client-focused mindset in all aspects of planning and delivery

About You

Essential:

  • Experience within a main contracting environment in the construction sector
  • Open to candidates transitioning into planning from roles such as site management, project management, or construction delivery
  • Willingness to learn, with training and development support available

Desirable:

  • Experience in both site-based and preconstruction planning
  • Proficiency in planning software such as Asta Powerproject
  • Ability to produce logistics strategies and construction methodologies
  • Strong understanding of sequencing and programme development
  • Knowledge of construction techniques including steel, concrete, and timber structures
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Awareness of site setup requirements, including temporary works and preliminaries
  • Familiarity with NEC and JCT forms of contract
  • Understanding of 4D planning and experience linking programmes to visual outputs
  • Experience coordinating with external specialists for graphics and planning visuals
