Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking California-licensed Physician Assistants for a locum tenens opportunity in San Francisco, California. This is an outpatient, academic medical center setting supporting neurosurgery and spine care, with a focus on outpatient clinic coverage for a busy neuro-spine practice.

Opportunity Highlights

  • Physician Assistant locum tenens position
  • Supportive outpatient neuro-spine surgery clinic
  • Full-time, M-F 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, no weekends or holidays
  • Start Date: ASAP, contract length: 25 weeks
  • EMR: Epic
  • Patient volume: 20-25 patients/day in person, with telehealth up to 26
  • Support team includes 7 APPs, surgeons, physiatrists, MAs, patient navigators
  • Focus solely on outpatient consults, post-op, follow-ups, and administrative support in clinic

Schedule Details

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • No inpatient or OR duties
  • Coverage required every week, M-F

Clinical Scope

  • Support neuro spine, neuro surgical, ortho spine, or pain management patients
  • Conduct consults independently with 2-3 years’ relevant experience
  • Manage post-op and follow-up appointments, diagnostics, medication orders
  • Perform wound care, staple removal, drain removals, injections (if experienced)
  • Collaborate with a team of surgeons and physiatrists in outpatient clinic setting
  • EMR documentation within Epic

Practice Environment

This outpatient neuro-spine clinic is based within an academic medical center in San Francisco, California. The team supports a diverse adult patient population, seeing both surgical and non-surgical patients exclusively in outpatient settings. The APPs provide support to surgeons, handling post-op and follow-up care while surgeons manage initial visits and pre-op assessments.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in physician assistant studies
  • Active California PA license (or eligible)
  • DEA license (schedule 2 and 2N) required
  • BLS certification required
  • 2-3 years of clinical experience in ortho spine surgery, neuro spine surgery, or pain management with spine patients
  • Thorough experience with neuro-spine cases preferred; neurology providers with spine experience considered
  • Credentialing timeframe: 60–90 days

Preferred Qualifications

  • Outpatient spine experience, including injections (trigger points, hips, knees), a plus
  • Academic medical center experience preferred
