Zoolatech is currently seeking candidates for a leading entity in the US health and wellness sector. Our client operates in a highly regulated niche, comparable to human healthcare. The company has historically not been technology-first and is now moving through a broader modernization effort. The current focus is on building a stronger platform foundation together with external vendors, modernizing legacy systems, improving engineering practices, and introducing AI-driven capabilities where they can bring practical business value. Within this context, we are looking for a Java Engineer who can act as a senior technical leader and hands-on contributor. The ideal candidate will help shape architecture, guide engineering decisions, modernize backend systems, and bring a pragmatic technology-first mindset into an evolving enterprise environment.

• Lead the full software development lifecycle for backend and platform initiatives, from technical concept and architecture through deployment, maintenance, and production support.

• Design and build robust, scalable Java-based systems and RESTful APIs with strong focus on performance, reliability, and maintainability.

• Contribute to cloud-native architecture and engineering practices, preferably with GCP or another major cloud platform.

• Help modernize legacy systems and move the platform toward more maintainable, reliable, and scalable solutions.

• Architect and guide the evolution of critical systems across multiple teams, aligning engineers around a shared technical vision.

• Collaborate closely with client stakeholders, engineering teams, external vendors, and distributed teams.

• Drive pragmatic technical decisions in an environment where project clarity may evolve over time.

• Mentor engineers, conduct thorough code reviews, and set high standards for code quality, testing, and engineering practices.

• Promote responsible use of AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate the SDLC while maintaining strong code quality and security standards.

• Proactively troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the software stack.

• Explore, assess, and propose emerging technologies and frameworks to improve products and engineering processes.

• Proven 10+ YOE experience in SW development.

• Expert-level proficiency with Java and extensive hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring REST, Spring Data, and Spring AOP.

• Expert-level experience designing and developing large-scale distributed systems, REST APIs, microservices, and integration-heavy platforms.

• Strong experience with Kafka, event-driven architecture, relational and/or NoSQL databases, caching, and asynchronous processing patterns.

• Experience with data engineering concepts such as schema registry, data formats, data translation, and data quality.

• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform.

• Strong knowledge of cloud-native engineering practices, including scalability, observability, resilience, security, and deployment automation.

• Experience modernizing legacy enterprise systems or working in complex enterprise environments.

• Practical experience with AI-assisted coding tools and ability to use them responsibly within the software development lifecycle.

• Ability to work independently as a senior individual contributor in an evolving project environment as well as working in a team and influence architecture and engineering standards.

• Strong communication skills and experience working directly with technical and business stakeholders.
