About the Role
An excellent and rewarding opportunity to use your knowledge of housing law and your casework investigations expertise to play a vital role in resolving a wide range of disputes between landlords and tenants and to contribute your skills to making a difference for millions of households.
The Housing Ombudsman Service provides independent, impartial and fair dispute resolution services for nearly 5 million households in England. Through resolving disputes effectively and promoting positive change across the social housing sector, we improve residents’ lives and landlords’ services.
Our Dispute Resolution function is responsible for conducting fair, impartial and independent investigations into complaints brought to the Ombudsman by residents. Within this campaign, due to the continued expansion of our organisation, we are seeking to recruit a number of Adjudicators (salary is £47,619) and Investigators (£41,375).
Using attention to detail, logical and an inquisitorial approach to investigating disputes, Adjudicators and Investigators assess complex complaints to ensure that cases are thoroughly considered in line with casework quality standards, policy jurisdiction and dispute resolution principles.
With exceptional communication skills, they communicate the outcome of decisions, orders and recommendations to all involved parties within an appropriate timescale, ensuring that work is of a high quality and meets our casework standards.
Adjudicators tend to focus on the most complex cases and as such, for the Adjudicator role, expert knowledge of housing law is essential, as is working knowledge of an ombudsman, whereas these requirements are desirable for an Investigator.
For either role, you’ll need the organisational skills to manage a varied caseload, a logical and an analytical approach. Your desire to help people find solutions will be matched by total impartiality and you’ll possess the tenacity and resilience to see each case through to a successful conclusion. You’ll be able to work autonomously, but nonetheless will be a supportive team player. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are key.
In addition to the salary offered, we also offer a range of other benefits including a commitment to a healthy work / life balance, including a 35 hour working week and flexitime.
It’s an exciting time to join us and to contribute your skills to the evolution of this ambitious, influential and growing organisation.
