About the Role
Shropshire Council is seeking an experienced and dedicated Qualified Social Worker to join its Duty & Assessment Team. This is a fast-paced frontline role, ideal for practitioners who are confident in managing referrals, completing statutory assessments, and making critical safeguarding decisions.
You will play a key role in ensuring children and families receive timely interventions, with a strong focus on safeguarding, risk management, and delivering high-quality assessments.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake Child and Family Assessments in line with statutory frameworks
Respond to referrals, completing Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries
Assess risk and need, implementing effective safeguarding and safety plans
Manage a busy and dynamic caseload within a duty environment
Participate in strategy discussions and multi-agency meetings
Progress cases to Child Protection Conferences and legal proceedings where necessary
Carry out home visits and direct work to ensure the child's voice is central
Work collaboratively with partner agencies including police, health, and education
Maintain accurate case recordings and produce high-quality reports within deadlines
Ensure compliance with legislation, statutory guidance, and local procedures
Essential Requirements
Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
Proven experience within Duty & Assessment / Frontline Safeguarding Teams
Strong knowledge of child protection legislation and statutory processes
Experience completing Section 17 & Section 47 investigations
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities
Excellent risk assessment, analytical, and communication skills
