Health Information System – EMR Specialist
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
Location: Onsite
Duration: 3+ months with potential for hire
Responsibilities:
- Process Release of Information (ROI) requests in compliance with HIPAA, state laws, and organizational policies
- Retrieve, review, and release medical records using EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or similar platforms
- Ensure accurate documentation and timely responses to patient, legal, insurance, and third-party requests
- Maintain strict confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI)
- Audit ROI logs and EMR access reports to ensure compliance
- Collaborate with Health Information Management, IT, and clinical teams to resolve record-related issues
- Train staff on EMR navigation, ROI procedures, and data privacy best practices
- Support EMR system upgrades, testing, and implementation of new features
- Generate reports on ROI volume, turnaround times, and compliance metrics
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of ROI and EMR experience in a healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical record confidentiality
- Experience handling legal and insurance medical record requests
- Familiarity with document imaging systems and electronic fax tools
- Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical workflows
- RHIT, CHPS, or CRIS certification preferred
