About the Role

Graduate apprenticeships

A graduate apprenticeship allows you to study towards a relevant degree while you are working in your current job.

What a graduate apprenticeship is

A Graduate Apprenticeship is a work-based higher education programme that allows you to study towards a relevant university degree while you are working in your current job.

You'll spend most of your time learning relevant and practical skills on the job while studying part-time at a university. You can read more about Graduate Apprenticeships in Scotland and details on how to apply.

As a graduate apprentice, you'll:

  • work, earn and learn - you'll be employed by a company
  • study for part of your week at university
  • get an Ordinary or Master's degree
  • combine work and study for 2 to 5 years
  • choose from 15 different apprenticeships

Who can do a graduate apprenticeship

Graduate apprenticeships are available to Renfrewshire Council staff.

There's no upper age limit to apply and we offer access to degree programmes in subjects such as accountancy, business management, civil engineering, quantity surveying, artificial intelligence and data science, cyber security, and early learning and childcare.

Who can apply for a graduate apprenticeship with us

To apply for a graduate apprenticeship with us, you must be:

  • employed by Renfrewshire Council
  • working in the same field as the course you would like to apply for
  • have the support and mentorship of your service - this is usually your line manager or someone who can best support you throughout the programme.
How to apply

Chose which degree course you'd like to do, then apply direct to your chosen university.

Most are offered through Glasgow Caledonian University and the University of the West of Scotland.

You can also find and apply on graduate apprenticeship (Apprenticeships.scot).

Applications normally open early in the year, with courses starting in September.

During February and March each year, service managers are notified about the forthcoming programme and courses available and asked to make their teams aware of the graduate apprenticeship learning opportunities and information available.

After you've applied

Once you've applied to your chosen university, they will contact you to confirm if you have met the requirements for acceptance onto the programme and arrange information sessions for you and your mentor.
