About Us: At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Job Posting Title: Assistant/Associate Professor and Medical Investigator Position Type: Faculty Department: LSUPBRC ExD - Clinical Science (Juan Lertora (00057945)) Work Location: LSU - Pennington Biomedical Pay Grade: Academic Job Description: Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor - Research and Medical Investigator in Clinical Science. The position will be split 50% for medical supervision and implementation of clinical trials (Medical Investigator and/or Principal Investigator) and 50% for independent biomedical research. The role of Medical Investigator requires oversight of clinical trials, performance of safety medical reviews, participating in the development of clinical trials, and overseeing the medical aspects of clinical research projects initiated by non-physician scientists at Pennington Biomedical. Job Responsibilities Research • Develop over time your own independent and externally funded in endocrinology and metabolism (e.g., NIH grants, private foundation grants, and investigator-initiated pharmaceutical grants). • Publish your research in high impact journals. • Actively collaborate with other Pis at Pennington Biomedical. • Participate in other scholarly activities including, grant reviews, participation in professional societies, and presentations at local, national, and international meetings. Medical Investigator/Physician Role • Provide coverage within the clinical research unit in support of active studies. • Serve as a medical investigator on funded projects. • Provide on-call duty for the unit in coordination with medical staff. • Provide service time in a Pennington Biomedical medical clinic if required by the Chief Medical Officer and the Executive Director. Required Qualifications Education Level: MD or DO Specific Degree: n/a Years of Experience: 3 - 5 years Certifications/Licenses: MD, Board Certified, ACLS, BLS Specific Experience: 3-5 years post-medical residence. Contingent on successful licensure to practice medicine in the State of Louisiana. Also contingent on obtaining privileges at all practice sites that will utilize your clinical services. Board Certification: Internal Medicine or Family Practice Strong oral, written communication and presentation skills Preferred Qualifications Experience in a research setting-implementation of Clinical Trials for investigational drugs and/or biologics.
