Social Sciences Teacher - Coventry

About the role:

Justteachers is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Social Sciences Teacher to join a welcoming secondary school in Coventry for a full time long term position in September. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about helping pupils explore society, human behaviour, social issues, and the wider world through engaging and thought-provoking lessons.

You’ll be joining a supportive staff team in a school that values high-quality teaching, strong behaviour routines, and a broad, ambitious curriculum. The role involves teaching Social Sciences, supporting pupils as they develop critical thinking, analytical skills, discussion confidence, and a deeper understanding of topics such as sociology, psychology, criminology, citizenship, and contemporary social issues.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver engaging Social Sciences lessons in line with curriculum expectations and pupil needs.
• Create a positive, inclusive, and discussion-rich learning environment that supports curiosity, respect, and critical thinking.
• Use debates, case studies, research tasks, and real-world examples to make social science concepts accessible and relevant.
• Assess, monitor, and report on pupil progress, adapting teaching to meet a range of abilities and learning needs.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to support curriculum planning, student progress, enrichment opportunities, and wider school life.

Pre-requisites:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching Social Sciences, Sociology, Psychology, Criminology, Citizenship, or a related subject in a UK secondary school or post-16 setting.
• Strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver engaging lessons across social science themes and contemporary issues.
• Excellent classroom management skills and a commitment to high standards of teaching and learning.
• Two relevant references, ideally from an educational setting.
