Senior Data Analyst Are you passionate about transforming data into actionable insights that shape strategic initiatives? About Role: The Research Collaboration Unit is looking for a secondee to cover a role in the technical arm of our group during a parental leave. The duration of the role is starting in April 2026 (date to be agreed) until end of January 2027. Our cross-functional projects are often conducted in collaboration with external partners, and comprise developing proof of concept product solutions that address novel customer needs, often focused around research evaluation questions, or applying scientometric techniques (big data, network analysis, ML and GenAI) to create innovative metrics or find innovative insights about our content or solutions. We are looking for an experienced Data Analyst/Data Scientist to assist with our portfolio of projects, which for H2 2026 are mainly focused on quantifying the impact of universities, replicating elements of librarianship best practices and researcher workflows using AI/ML, and applying scientometric signals to develop new solutions that could (in the long term) comprise new features in Elsevier’s product portfolio. Responsibilities: Produce proof of concept metrics/systems in Python, often using GenAI integrations, to quickly prototype novel feature ideas Assist project leaders in the Research Collaboration unit with ad hoc data analyses, such as: quantifying coverage and quality of (internal or external) datasets, preparing novel research indicators in Databricks, preparing custom datasets transformed from the Scopus ANI table or other sources Participate in group brainstorming, code reviews, and other learning activities Work in a cross-functional way with other team members to ensure projects receive adequate QA (including human evaluation), user research, design/presentation, and align with relevant product roadmaps Requirements: Fluency in Databricks/with Pyspark, and experience working with key Elsevier datasets such as Scopus ANI and article fulltext Strong familiarity with data assets in the company that could be leveraged for new product innovations Preferably experience integrating LLMs into workflows for summarization, search, or information extraction Solid Python skills for producing quick prototypes to demo new features/ideas Familiarity with common ML algorithms (e.g., logistic regression, SVMs, random forests) and model evaluation practices. Understanding of key concepts in research evaluation, such as current popular metrics and databases, trends in the community, and scientometric best practices Strong communication and presentation skills, including pitching proposed solutions to senior business and product stakeholders Creative thinker, willing to ideate diverse solutions to user problems and iterate frequently based on (external) feedback. Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies. Clear communication and ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team.
