About the Role
The Payroll Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for employees, and related reporting and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves reconciling payroll data, managing payroll-related reporting and tax compliance, and assisting with audits and month-end close activities.
Key Responsibilities
Process payroll for multi-state employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Maintain payroll records and ensure appropriate documentation is filed and retained.
Prepare and reconcile payroll journal entries and general ledger accounts.
Manage and reconcile payroll tax filings and ensure timely submissions.
Assist with audits, including internal, external, and governmental (e.g., IRS, DOL).
Resolve payroll discrepancies and assist the People team in answering employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and taxes.
Support benefits administration related to payroll, such as 401(k) and insurance deductions.
Stay up to date with changes in payroll laws and regulations.
Collaborate with People and Finance teams for seamless data integration and reporting.
Required Qualifications and Key Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
2–5 years of payroll accounting experience; multi-state payroll experience required.
Strong understanding of payroll and tax laws.
Strong Proficiency with Paylocity.
Proficiency with Power Query, Excel, and NetSuite.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Skills

Basic understanding of Google Suite.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to solve practical problems via a logical, analytic approach.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of electronic equipment, intermediate PC skills, knowledge of internet software and proficiency. Familiarity with Google Drive and Google Docs is a must. Computer experience/operation is required. Must have the ability to operate general office equipment.
