Working Title: Public Affairs Programming Producer - Radio/Tv Program Coordinator Institution: St. Cloud State University Classification Title: Radio/TV Program Coordinator Bargaining Unit / Union: 214: Minnesota Association of Professional Employees City: St. Cloud FLSA: Non Job Exempt Full Time / Part Time: Part time Employment Condition: Classified - Unlimited Salary Range: $23.98 - $34.69 Job Description Develop public affairs and culturally focused information programming for KVSC-FM, including the training and mentorship of student workers and volunteers in the creation of that programming. PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS Produce half-hour episodes of KVSC public affairs programs: Develop and produce half-hour episodes of Untold Stories of Central Minnesota, a long-running KVSC radio series that features interviews with individuals and groups making cultural contributions to the Central Minnesota community. According to current grant parameters, KVSC must produce thirty original episodes per year. Develop and produce half-hour episodes of Backstages, KVSC radio series that features interviews with individuals and groups making cultural contributions across Minnesota. According to current grant parameters, KVSC must produce ten original episodes per year. Support the management and scheduling of digital signage content across campus. Mentor and supervise KVSC student employees and volunteers in the development and production of individual episodes of Untold Stories of Central Minnesota and Backstages. Ensure all episodes of Untold Stories of Central Minnesota and Backstages are uploaded to Public Radio Exchange and posted to the KVSC website with all necessary supplemental information. Maintain relationships with area arts and culture organizations to aid in the creation of programming. Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 50% Produce the Arts & Culture Collage Daily Segment In accordance with a grant received by KVSC, develop, plan, and produce the Arts and Culture Collage, a daily on-air community calendar segment that runs 3 minutes. Update and maintain the Area Events section of the KVSC website to further support community events. Maintain relationships with area arts and culture organizations to aid in the creation of this programming segment. Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 20% Mentor KVSC News Director Provide guidance to the KVSC News Director, a student position, as they manage the radio news department. Evaluate the quality and quantity of KVSC news stories to ensure they meet established journalistic standards. Assist in the instruction of students on the use of broadcast and sound editing equipment as needed. Priority: Secondary Percent of Time: 20% Minnesota State Fair Programming Support Solicit and schedule interviews for KVSC’s annual Live from the State Fair Day that traditionally takes place on the opening day of the Minnesota State Fair. Create drafts of questions and compile other reference materials that student and community volunteer broadcasters can reference when interviewing guests at the State Fair. Coordinate with student leaders in the KVSC news department and the KVSC programming department to schedule and support interviewers for the State Fair broadcast Priority: Secondary Percent of Time: 5% Team & Operational Support Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization. The Public Affairs Programming Producer might be asked to fill in for other staff members’ duties in their absence. The Public Affairs Programming Producer should have working knowledge of all processes and procedures at KVSC. Priority: Secondary Percent of Time: 5% Salary Range: $23.98 - $34.69/hour Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a communications-related field (e.g., communication, marketing, journalism) and at least 2 years of experience in broadcasting, audio production, journalism, public relations, marketing, or strategic communications or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated excellence in a variety of technical communication skills (writing, image editing, audio production) that are required to create broadcast-quality programming. Demonstrated effectiveness building relationships with a diverse internal and external clientele. A proven ability to effectively prioritize work in an environment with frequently changing needs and timelines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations as they relate to licensed noncommercial radio stations. Preferred Qualification Master’s degree in communications or another creatively focused field. Working knowledge of KVSC, preferably supplemented by hands-on experience with the station Significant experience effectively coaching people with a variety of skill levels on effective broadcasting techniques. Significant experience in a student-run, noncommercial radio station environment. Experience working with Central Minnesota arts and cultural organizations. Other Requirements The work of this individual is both externally and internally focused. It will include working faculty and staff in offices and departments across campus. It will also include developing and maintaining relationship with cultural and arts organizations outside of the campus.
