About the Role
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Loadout Plant Supervisor, the Railperson must be able to operate locomotive and other loadout equipment as necessary. The Railperson interfaces, on a daily basis, with the rest of the operations in this location. The employee holding this job must perform the work activities in a correct, accurate and timely fashion due to the fact that every single work activity in our line of business is crucial for the whole operation, this is job is primarily an outside position.
Job Responsibilities
Responsible for safe rail movements
Operates locomotives
Directs train movements
Continually inspect track conditions
Maintains and cleans locomotives and railyard
Fills out forms to report mechanical problems to shop mechanics.
Communicates with and cooperates with truckers and customers.
Records down time and actions taken
Assist with track repairs and general rail maintenance
Assist with inspecting and cleaning of railcars
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Prior experience required with similar or same equipment or machinery.
Ability to carry out simple oral and written instructions and deal with simple probes from standardized situations.
Ability to perform basic computer functions.
Basic mathematical skills, including basic arithmetic functions and common units of measurement.
Ability to read English sufficiently to be able to read information contained in manuals, regulations, and reports, including Safety issues and related matters.
Basic English language skills for completion of various paperwork such as pre-shift inspection forms.
Ability to speak English and communicate with others via a two-way radio.
Ability to detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions and respond accordingly.
Basic mechanical knowledge to detect potential breakdown of equipment.
High level of attentiveness and physical coordination to operate locomotive safely in busy stress areas
High School Diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements
Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and/or moving of 50 pounds maximum, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighting up to 50 pounds.
