160 women from across the borough came together recently for a highly successful ‘Celebrating Women’ event, held at Seagoe Hotel, Portadown.
The free event created a welcoming, inclusive and safe space for women to build relationships, connect, reflect and be inspired, with a strong focus on women’s health and wellbeing.
Participants took part in a range of activities throughout the day, including essential health checks, getting support and advice from health and wellbeing information stands, as well as listening to engaging panel discussions.
Many women who attended commented on how positive it felt to take time to focus on their own wellbeing while connecting with others.
The event ended with a wonderful performance from the ‘Just Sing Ladies’ – a choir formed five years ago by two women who wanted to sing, and has since turned into over 70 ladies who enjoy this valued community and all it brings.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Jessica Johnston, said: “It was wonderful to see so many women coming together in such a positive and welcoming space.
“Whether attending alone or with friends, everyone was met with kindness and encouraged to take part in a way that felt comfortable for them. Events like this show the importance of connection, support and wellbeing for women across our communities.”
The event was organised by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, in partnership with ABC Community Network and the Southern Health and Social Care Trust.
