SQL Server DBA (Subject Matter Expert) Location: Omaha, NEPosted On: 05/06/2026 Requirement Code: 73659 Requirement Detail Role Summary We are seeking a highly experienced SQL Server DBA (Subject Matter Expert) to manage, optimize, and support mission-critical database environments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in SQL Server architecture, performance tuning, high availability, and database security, along with strong problem-solving and leadership skills. This role requires ownership of database stability, scalability, and performance, while collaborating with development and infrastructure teams to ensure high-quality data solutions. Key Responsibilities Database Administration & Operations - Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances across environments - Manage database backups, restores, and disaster recovery strategies - Monitor database health, performance, and uptime - Perform patching, upgrades, and migrations with minimal downtime Performance Tuning & Optimization - Analyze and optimize slow queries, indexing strategies, and execution plans - Implement performance tuning best practices across databases - Troubleshoot and resolve blocking, deadlocks, and resource contention issues - Ensure optimal CPU, memory, and storage utilization High Availability & Disaster Recovery - Design and maintain HA/DR solutions such as: - Always On Availability Groups - Failover Clustering - Log Shipping / Replication - Ensure business continuity and minimal downtime during failures - Conduct regular DR drills and validation Security & Compliance - Implement and manage database security (logins, roles, permissions) - Ensure compliance with data protection and audit requirements - Monitor and address security vulnerabilities and threats Automation & Scripting - Develop and maintain automation scripts using T-SQL, PowerShell - Automate routine DBA tasks such as backups, monitoring, and deployments - Improve operational efficiency through standardization and automation Collaboration & Leadership - Work closely with developers to optimize database design and queries - Provide guidance on schema design, indexing, and query optimization - Conduct code and database reviews - Mentor junior DBAs and support teams Required Skills Core Database Skills - Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022) - Advanced knowledge of T-SQL, stored procedures, triggers, and functions - Strong experience in database design and normalization Performance & Troubleshooting - Deep expertise in query tuning, indexing, and execution plans - Experience with SQL Profiler, Extended Events, and DMVs - Strong troubleshooting skills for performance bottlenecks High Availability & DR - Hands-on experience with: - Always On Availability Groups - Failover Clustering - Backup/Restore strategies Tools & Monitoring - Experience with tools like SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Redgate, SolarWinds, or SentryOne - Experience in database monitoring and alerting systems Scripting & Automation - Proficiency in PowerShell and T-SQL scripting Good to Have Skills - Experience with Azure SQL / AWS RDS for SQL Server - Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines - Exposure to NoSQL databases - Experience with data warehousing, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS - Familiarity with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) Desired Candidate Profile - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - Excellent communication and stakeholder management - Ability to handle production-critical environments under pressure - Experience in mentoring and leading teams - Strong focus on performance, reliability, and security - Proven track record of ensuring high availability and zero data loss
