Behaviour Support Practitioner

Location: Swansea & Surrounding Areas Employer: Teaching Personnel Start: ASAP Contract: Full-Time (Agency Supply) We are seeking a committed, resilient, and compassionate individual to join a specialist referral setting supporting young people with additional behavioural, emotional, and social needs (BESD/SEMH). This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping vulnerable pupils re-engage with education and develop positive pathways. While the role is ideally full-time to provide consistency and stability, employment is offered through an agency, meaning work is dependent on school demand and cannot be guaranteed. ⭐ The Role You will play a vital part in supporting pupils who may present challenging behaviour or emotional regulation difficulties. This role requires patience, empathy, strong communication, and the ability to remain calm and confident in high-pressure situations. You will support young people throughout the school day — academically, emotionally, and behaviourally — helping them build trust, develop coping strategies, and engage positively with their education. Key Duties & Responsibilities Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with additional behavioural and emotional needs Motivate and engage pupils with learning, daily routines, and structured activities Use positive behaviour management strategies to de-escalate challenging situations Build strong, trusting relationships and act as a consistent, positive role model Support pupils during lessons, social times, and on off-site activities where required Collaborate with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals Maintain high safeguarding standards and follow all school policies and procedures Contribute to a safe, stable, and nurturing learning environment The Ideal Candidate We’re looking for someone who is: Experienced working with children or young people (school, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, care, etc.) Resilient, reliable, and committed to providing stability Calm under pressure, with a patient and adaptable approach Confident setting boundaries while remaining approachable and supportive Energetic and enthusiastic about engaging young people through sport, fitness, gaming, creative arts, outdoor activities, or other positive hobbies Understanding of the flexible nature of agency supply work Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and succeed Desirable Qualifications & Experience (Not essential — training can be provided.) Level 2/3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Youth Work, Childcare, or similar Experience in PRUs, Alternative Provisions, SEN settings, or youth work Team Teach or similar behaviour management training GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths Experience supporting individuals with SEMH, trauma, or behavioural needs Training & Professional Development Teaching Personnel offers free in-person training, including: Behaviour Management Techniques Classroom Management Strategies De-escalation and Positive Handling Awareness This equips you with the tools to thrive in a challenging yet deeply rewarding environment.
