Position Overview:

St. Matthew School, a vibrant PreK–8 Catholic elementary school committed to academic excellence and faith-based education, is seeking an innovative, organized, and student-centered Media Specialist (Library & Technology Teacher) for the 2026–2027 school year.

This full-time specialty position combines technology instruction, library/media center leadership, and basic technology support. The ideal candidate will teach Technology classes (including STEM lessons, digital citizenship and computational skills), foster a love of reading and research, and maintain a dynamic, welcoming library space that supports all learners.

The Media Specialist will also play a key role in supporting school technology systems, including Chromebook management and assisting with the Google Workspace for Education administrative console, in collaboration with school leadership and IT partners.


Key Responsibilities:

Spiritual Leadership and Catholic Identity:

  • Foster a Christ-Centered Environment: Promote respect, responsibility, and ethical use of technology grounded in Catholic values.
  • Faith Formation: Integrate Catholic teachings into lessons on digital citizenship, emphasizing dignity, integrity, and responsible decision-making.
  • Virtue-Based Management: Model and reinforce virtues such as prudence, justice, and responsibility in both in-person and digital environments.
  • Ministry of Presence: Participate in school liturgies and contribute to the spiritual life of the school community.

Instruction and Program Development:

  • Design and deliver engaging STEM and technology curriculum for students in PreK–8.

  • Teach digital citizenship, online safety, and technology ethics, helping students become responsible digital learners.

  • Introduce and support foundational technology skills, including typing, research, presentation tools, and appropriate use of educational platforms.

  • Provide opportunities for hands-on, project-based learning that fosters creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners across grade levels.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate technology into core content areas.


Library and Media Center Leadership:

  • Manage and maintain a welcoming, organized, and student-centered library/media space.

  • Support students in PreK-5 with book selection, research skills, and independent reading.

  • Maintain and update the library collection, including cataloging, inventory, and acquisition of new materials.

  • Promote literacy and a love of reading through displays, programs, and school-wide initiatives.

  • Oversee library scheduling and ensure equitable access for all classes.


Technology Support and Systems Management:

  • Provide basic troubleshooting and support for student and staff Chromebooks.

  • Assist with Chromebook management, including inventory, distribution, and upkeep.

  • Support the administration of Google Workspace for Education, including user management and basic troubleshooting, in collaboration with school leadership and IT partners.

  • Collaborate with school technology leaders and external IT partners to maintain efficient and secure systems.


Classroom Leadership:

  • Establish clear expectations for student behavior in both physical and digital learning environments.

  • Create an engaging and structured classroom environment that promotes curiosity, responsibility, and innovation.

  • Support students in developing digital responsibility, organization, and independence.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages exploration and creativity.


Communication and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with faculty to support technology integration and instructional innovation.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding library resources and technology use.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school initiatives.
  • Work closely with administration to support school-wide technology goals and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • ● Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Library Science, Educational Technology, or related field required

    ● Teaching certification preferred (Elementary or Technology/Library Media)

    ● Experience in STEM instruction, educational technology, or library/media services preferred

    ● Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education and Chromebook environments strongly preferred

    ● Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and systems effectively

    ● Commitment to Catholic education and student-centered learning
