About the Role

<p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p>The Adolescence Research Group, directed by Joseph Allen at the University of Virginia has an opening for a post-doctoral Research Associate for a clinical or developmental psychologist with expertise relevant to longitudinal research on social development from adolescence into adulthood examining mental and physical health as well as next generation parenting outcomes.</p><p></p><p>The Group is focused on understanding the role of social development from adolescence into adulthood in terms of its impact on adult relationships, mental health, and physical health (<a href="http://www.teenresearch.org" target="_blank">www.teenresearch.org</a>). The Lab is also interested in the application of this research to intervention efforts, in particular to socially based efforts to enhance relationships among adolescents and young adults (<a href="https://theconnectionproject.virginia.edu" target="_blank">https://theconnectionproject.virginia.edu</a> ).</p><p></p><p>QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. in Clinical or Developmental Psychology or closely related discipline with an emphasis on adolescent social development, long-term longitudinal research, and health outcomes of social relationships is required by the start date. Advanced statistical analytic capacities applicable to longitudinal data, experience is required.</p><p></p><p>The following are preferred qualifications:</p><p>• A record of high-quality research as demonstrated by publications in top-tier journals and external presentations.</p><p>• Evidence of a growing national reputation, seen in participation in journal editorial processes, as well as ability to translate academic work into material accessible for a broader audience.</p><p>• Ability to develop, utilize and supervise application of complex coding systems to capture social interaction behavior.</p><p>• Prior experience successfully mentoring students in producing high quality academic reports.</p><p>• Experience working with social-emotional interventions for adolescents and young adults.</p><p>• A history of obtaining grant support at both the local and national levels.</p><p></p><p>APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply online at <a href="https://uva.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UVAJobs" target="_blank">https://uva.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UVAJobs</a> and search for R0080047.  Attach a cover letter, a detailed curriculum vitae, a maximum of 2 published papers, and the contact information for three individuals who can provide professional reference letters.  Please note that multiple documents can be uploaded in the box.</p><p></p><p>APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review of applications will begin on February 8, 2026, and will remain open until filled.
