About the Role

About the role:

A supportive and inclusive SEMH setting in Thetford, dedicated to working with children and young people who require additional support with their social, emotional, and mental health needs.

The provision focuses on helping learners build resilience, improve emotional regulation, and develop confidence alongside their academic progress. This role is full-time on a long term supply basis from September.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent, nurturing support to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them engage positively with learning and daily routines.
  • Work alongside teaching staff to adapt activities and break down tasks, ensuring learning is accessible and manageable for each individual.
  • Use a range of supportive strategies – such as clear instructions, visual prompts, modelling, and practical activities – to maintain engagement and reduce anxiety or overwhelm.
  • Promote positive behaviour by building trusting relationships, using de-escalation techniques, and supporting pupils to regulate their emotions effectively.

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs in settings such as schools, alternative provisions, care, youth work, or mentoring roles.
  • A good understanding of behaviour support strategies and how to respond to emotional or behavioural challenges in a calm, consistent manner.
  • Confidence in adapting approaches to meet individual needs and supporting pupils to remain engaged in activities.
  • Two education or school based references.
  • Relevant training or qualifications such as Level 2 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Youth Work, or equivalent hands-on experience.
