About the Role
<p><strong>Maintenance Fitter / Technician</strong> <br /><strong>Location</strong>: Southampton<br /> <strong>Salary</strong>: £45,000+ DOE<br /> <strong>Hours</strong>: 43.75 hours per week – 07:45 – 17:00 – Monday to Friday</p>
<p> This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer to join a busy operation where you will play a key role in ensuring maximum uptime of plant and machinery through proactive and reactive maintenance.<br />The Role As a Maintenance Fitter / Technician, you will be responsible for keeping heavy plant and processing equipment in optimum operational condition. Machinery includes:</p>
<ul>
<li>Heavy mobile plant</li>
<li>Excavators</li>
<li>Wheel loaders</li>
<li>Balers</li>
<li>Other specialist recycling equipment</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Diagnose and resolve breakdown issues efficiently</li>
<li>Respond rapidly to minimise equipment downtime</li>
<li>Maintain all machinery to a high operational standard in line with company procedures</li>
<li>Comply with all machine operating systems and safety protocols</li>
<li>Keep accurate records of machinery on site</li>
<li>Complete and maintain documentation via CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System)</li>
<li>Provide written and verbal reports to line management</li>
<li>Attend progress meetings as required</li>
<li>Carry out additional duties as reasonably requested</li>
<li>Adhere to company policies and procedures</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Essential Skills & Experience</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Proven experience in a similar maintenance role</li>
<li>Ability to strip down and rebuild hydraulic and mechanical components on heavy machinery</li>
<li>Strong understanding of technical drawings</li>
<li>Competent in lifting and slinging operations</li>
<li>Working knowledge of diesel engine maintenance</li>
<li>ONC qualification (or equivalent)</li>
<li>NVQ Level 3 or above in a relevant engineering discipline</li>
<li>IT literate, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Desirable Skills</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>HNC qualification in a relevant engineering field</li>
<li>Advanced hydraulic fault diagnosis at component level</li>
<li>Experience operating basic machine shop equipment (lathe, milling machine, etc.)</li>
<li>Working knowledge of 3-phase electrics</li>
<li>Experience working within a clean room environment</li>
<li>Background in metal recycling or similar heavy industrial sectors</li>
</ul>
