Job Title -Junior Instructional Designer
Location – Onsite, 5 days a week, Birmingham, AL 35243
Employment Type – Contract
Hourly Pay Rate – $23-25 per hour
Experience Level – Entry-level to early career (0–3 years)
Role Overview
The Junior Instructional Designer supports the creation and maintenance of high-quality training content for instructor-led (ILT), virtual, and eLearning environments. Working under the guidance of senior and staff instructional designers, this role contributes to content development, multimedia production, course testing, and documentation management. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their instructional design career who is eager to learn, collaborate, and grow in a fast-paced training environment.
Key Responsibilities
Content Development & Production
Update and refine PowerPoint decks for instructor-led and virtual training sessions
Assist with drafting storyboards, facilitator guides, and job aids
Support recording, editing, and implementation of narration and voiceovers
Prepare multimedia assets using authoring and creative tools
Ensure training materials adhere to branding, formatting, accessibility, and quality standards
Instructional Design Support
Apply foundational instructional design models and adult learning principles under senior guidance
Assist in aligning content with learning objectives and course outcomes
Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from senior designers and subject matter resources
Test eLearning courses in staging and production environments to ensure proper functionality
Documentation & Learning Systems
Maintain course files, assets, and documentation within SharePoint
Support version control, publishing, and content update processes
Ensure documentation remains organized, current, and aligned with governance standards
Assist with learning management system (LMS) support as needed
Project & Team Support
Track tasks, timelines, and status updates using tools such as Monday.com
Support senior designers with meeting notes, feedback documentation, scheduling, and project communications
Communicate effectively with designers, instructors, and subject matter resources
Research learning technologies, multimedia trends, and instructional best practices
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Communications, or a related field
(or equivalent academic, internship, or practicum experience)
Basic understanding of instructional design principles and adult learning concepts
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Familiarity with at least one of the following:
Articulate 360 or similar eLearning authoring tools
Adobe Creative Cloud or comparable multimedia software
Narration or voiceover tools
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Willingness to learn new tools, methods, and processes
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS)
Exposure to eLearning testing and publishing workflows
Internship or project-based experience supporting training or learning initiatives
