About the Role

What makes this opportunity different

This role is designed for people at the start of their teaching journey. You won’t be expected to know everything on day one. Instead, you’ll be supported to grow into the role.

You’ll be working within a secondary English department, gradually building confidence in the classroom while developing the skills needed to become a qualified teacher in the future.

Think of it as stepping into teaching with a safety net, structure, and real guidance around you.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting English lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4
  • Working with pupils in small groups and whole-class settings
  • Helping students engage with reading, writing, and discussion
  • Learning how to plan, deliver, and reflect on lessons over time
  • Building classroom confidence with guidance from experienced teachers

You won’t be thrown in at the deep end. You’ll ease in, observe, support, and gradually take on more responsibility as you grow.

What you’ll gain

This is a real stepping stone into teaching, not just a temporary classroom role.

You’ll gain:

  • Hands-on classroom experience in a secondary school setting
  • A clear pathway into teacher training routes such as PGCE or Schools Direct
  • Ongoing mentoring from experienced educators
  • Structured training and professional development opportunities
  • Confidence working with young people in a real school environment
  • Transferable skills for a long-term career in education

Many people use roles like this to decide if teaching is right for them, and then progress into fully qualified teacher status with confidence.

Who this role is for

This opportunity is ideal if you are:

  • A graduate considering a career in teaching
  • Someone looking for a meaningful career change into education
  • An aspiring English teacher who wants classroom experience first
  • Passionate about supporting young people and education

You do not need prior classroom experience. You just need:

  • Strong communication skills
  • A positive, resilient attitude
  • A genuine interest in working with young people
  • A willingness to learn and be supported

Through Protocol Education, you will receive:
