About the Role
About the role: We are looking to appoint a caring, enthusiastic, and committed Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join our team from September on a full-time basis in Northampton. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and the SEND team to provide high-quality support for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and making a positive difference in children’s lives. Key Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEND. Support pupils to access the curriculum and participate fully in school life. Work collaboratively with teachers and the SENDCo to implement individual support plans and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), where applicable. Encourage pupils’ independence, confidence, and social development. Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and personal care where required. Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff. Promote positive behaviour and help create a safe, inclusive learning environment. Liaise effectively with parents, carers, and external professionals when appropriate. Attend relevant training and contribute to meetings relating to pupils with additional needs. Ensure safeguarding and health and safety procedures are followed at all times. Pre-requisites: Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), preferably within a school setting. A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential. An understanding of a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, and social, emotional and mental health needs. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Patience, empathy, and a calm, positive approach. The ability to work effectively as part of a team and use initiative when working independently. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
