Job Title: Receptionist - Probation Service (Temporary)

Employer: Brook Street Recruitment (on behalf of the HM Prison and Probation Service)

Location: Islington Probation Office, London

Pay Rate: £14.41 per hour

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm (with one evening shift per week, 1:00pm-8:00pm)

Contract: Temporary until 31/03/2027

Please note: Successful candidates will be required to undergo SSCL vetting, which may take up to 6 weeks.

About the Role

We're recruiting a Receptionist to join the Probation Service in Islington. This is a frontline position where you will act as the first point of contact for visitors, people on probation, and staff, while supporting the safe and efficient day-to-day running of the office.

Key Duties

• Welcome visitors, log arrivals, issue passes, and notify staff of attendance
• Answer telephone calls, emails, and general enquiries, escalating where appropriate
• Support office operations including managing post, deliveries, stationery/PPE orders, and room bookings
• Handle petty cash and issue travel warrants for people on probation
• Carry out safety and security checks (e.g. fire alarms, CCTV monitoring) and act as Fire Warden/First Aider (training provided)
• Provide confidential administrative support, including updating records and maintaining databases
• Handle sensitive information in line with data protection requirements
• Remain alert to safeguarding or risk concerns and escalate appropriately

Skills & Experience

• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Admin skills
• Confident using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Professional, organised, and able to remain calm under pressure
• Experience in a customer-facing or criminal justice environment is desirable
