Behaviour Support Assistant - Peterborough

About the role:

justteachers are currently recruiting for a full-time Behaviour Support Assistant position within an alternative provision in the Peterborough area, starting in September on a long-term basis.
This opportunity is based within a provision supporting primary-aged pupils and girls in secondary education who require additional support to access learning. Many pupils have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges, and associated communication or learning needs. The setting provides a structured, nurturing environment focused on positive relationships, emotional regulation and re-engagement with education.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to support pupils both in and out of the classroom, helping them achieve positive educational and personal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with behavioural and emotional needs
Supporting pupils to engage positively with learning and school routines
Building strong, trusting relationships to promote confidence and resilience
Implementing behaviour support plans and intervention strategies
Supporting emotional regulation and positive coping mechanisms
Assisting pupils during transitions, breaktimes and other unstructured periods
Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and external professionals
Monitoring and recording pupil behaviour, wellbeing and progress
Helping to create a safe, structured and supportive learning environment

Pre-requisites:

Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural or additional learning needs
Candidates from education, youth work, care, residential care, mentoring or support backgrounds
A calm, patient and resilient approach
Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
An understanding of trauma-informed or restorative approaches would be beneficial
The ability to remain consistent and adaptable in challenging situations
A genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes

As part of our safeguarding and compliance process, we require a minimum of two professional references covering the last two years in full, along with an Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
