About the Role

Support the media relations and communications team in creating, implementing, and maintaining a proactive and aggressive media relations and communications strategy to advance Hillsdale College's mission nationwide, foster allies, and secure and preserve its independence. This position involves conducting research that is vital to the strategic decisions made by the Media Relations and Communications department and providing other input and assistance. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education & Experience This position requires a Bachelor’s degree (or pending degree) or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the job. Physical Requirements Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively. Ability to operate basic office equipment, a photocopier, fax machine, computer equipment, and the like. Code of Commitment Be a good representative of Hillsdale College to promote the liberal arts, the College’s original Articles of Association, and operating principles stated in the Staff Code of Commitment. The Mission Statement should be considered in all aspects of the position. The teaching of Christian faith shall remain a conspicuous aim of the College. Help execute the College’s annual media relations and communications plans for media, community, and internal audiences with measurable objectives and goals. Provide research assistance regarding incoming and outgoing (proactive) media opportunities. Assist in researching media figures and outlets, and other organizations in order to establish an accurate understanding of the reach and tone of prospective interviews. Provide research assistance on internal projects, gathering accurate information from within the college for purposes of dissemination in press releases and other external materials. Provide research assistance for the drafting of op-eds and other written materials intended for public dissemination. Help manage the College’s reputation and influence in print, radio, and broadcast.   Work with other members of the media relations and communications staff to provide other assistance as needed. Function as a motivated, self-starting member of a team in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
