About the Role

On behalf of Network Rail, we are looking for a Senior Ecologist for a 12 month hybrid contract based in either Exeter or Bristol. Network Rail is at the heart of revitalising Britain’s railway. As a Senior Ecologist, your main responsibilities will be to: Survey ecosystems and assess the diversity, profusion and behaviour of the different organisms within them. Conduct field surveys to collect biological information about the numbers and distribution of organisms. Carry out taxonomy, classification of organisms, applying sampling strategies and employing a range of habitat survey techniques. Work on habitat management and creation, writing reports and issuing recommendations. Liaise with and advise, site managers, engineers, planners and others associated with a survey building relationships with stakeholders. Keep up to date with new environmental policies and legislation, and contribute ideas about changes based on ecological findings. Essential:  Specific previous experience of large-scale linear habitat management. Specific experience of managing complex Dormouse licences. Hold a personal Dormouse (survey) licence. Have been Named Ecologist on previous Mitigation Licences.
