SEN Learning Support Assistant

We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our team and support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This role is ideal for individuals with experience in:

• Sports coaching or outdoor education
• Psychology or mental health support
• Care work or youth work
• Prison/probation services or challenging behaviour settings

People from these backgrounds often excel in the role due to their patience, emotional intelligence, strong boundaries and ability to stay calm under pressure.

About the Role

As an LSA, you will:

• Build trusted, supportive relationships with students who may struggle with behaviour, confidence or emotional regulation.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to help pupils engage with learning.
• Assist teachers in delivering differentiated and accessible lessons.
• Help create a safe, structured environment where students feel secure and able to learn.
• Use de‑escalation strategies and consistent communication to support positive behaviour.
• Encourage students to develop resilience, self-esteem and independence.

• Experience working with children or young adults with SEN/SEMH needs.
• A calm, empathetic and consistent approach.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Resilience and the ability to remain professional in challenging situations.
• A team player who is committed to inclusive education.
• A background in sports, psychology, care or the justice sector is highly valued.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
