Radiation & EMI/EMC Systems Engineer

Sterling Heights, MI  

Contract Position

$59.03-$66.10/Hour

Support the digital transformation of vehicle-based defense systems by integrating EMI/EMC Radiation Engineering principles into cutting-edge hardware and software architectures. Leverage your expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to ensure system-level electromagnetic compatibility and compliance with military and industry standards.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and interpret customer EMI/NUC Radiation requirements for system and component-level compliance.

  • Design and analyze system architecture to support EMI/EMC integration throughout hardware and software systems.

  • Conduct electromagnetic simulations (EMS) using 3D solvers to support predictive analysis and validate against requirements.

  • Perform EMI/EMC analyses, recommend design changes, and document results in detailed reports.

  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to identify radiation and EMI hazards, and develop risk mitigation strategies.

  • Define, trace, and validate EMI/EMC requirements in collaboration with the Systems Engineering Department.

  • Develop and manage safety Hazard Tracking, Risk Registers, and maintain traceability of hazard mitigations.

  • Prepare and deliver all required CDRLs and technical documentation for customer submission.

  • Conduct peer reviews of engineering deliverables and maintain internal documentation on project progress, risks, and schedules.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics.

  • Ability to Obtain and Maintain Secret Clearance
  • 7–10 years of experience in EMI/EMC engineering, system integration, or related defense applications.

  • Expertise in EMI/EMC design principles, including signal integrity, shielding, and grounding.

  • Experience with Signal Processing (transfer functions, time- vs. frequency-domain analysis).

  • Familiarity with circuit design including RF equivalent circuits, filtering, PCB layout, and impedance control.

  • Proficiency in MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, or commercial EMI/EMC standards (ISO, IEC).

  • Skilled in MBSE methodologies, preferably using CAMEO Systems Modeler or equivalent.

  • Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools such as FEKO, HFSS, or SIMULIA.

  • Familiarity with tools like MATLAB, SIMULINK, LTSpice, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Must meet Anthropometric Size Requirements (ASR) for confined space work inside combat vehicles.

  • Willingness to travel for testing, technical reviews, and customer meetings.

  • Ability to work occasional evening or weekend overtime as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics.

  • Active U.S. Security Clearance.

  • Knowledge of TEMPEST standards and RED/BLACK separation practices.

  • 7+ years of experience in EMI component and EMC system-level product development.

  • Familiarity with E3/EMI Data Item Descriptions (DI-EMCS-8xxxx).

  • Experience with power electronics, motor control systems, and related simulation.

  • Background in wireless communication systems (e.g., satellite, cellular, terrestrial).

  • Familiarity with positioning and navigation systems (GPS, Lidar, Radar, Cameras).

  • Interest or experience in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML).

  • iNARTE EMC certification preferred.

  • Experience designing Nuclear Event Detector circuits.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and support technical training.
