About the Role

Workshop Controller – Warrington

Pay: £45,000 per annum
Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday (hours as per business needs)
Contract: Permanent

Earning Potential (OTE)

  • Basic Salary: £45,000 per year
  • Realistic OTE: £52,000+ per year
  • Overtime Rate: Paid at time-and-a-half (1.5x) where applicable

Overview
We need an experienced Workshop Controller with a strong HGV technical background to lead the workshop team at a leading commercial vehicle dealership in Warrington. You’ll manage workflow, ensure quality and compliance, maximise utilisation, and guide the team to deliver exceptional customer service. This role suits someone process-driven who knows how to get the best out of technicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure workshop processes are followed for every job
  • Receive job cards, pre-time each job, and allocate work to technicians
  • Monitor job progress and maximise sold hours
  • Obtain authorisation for additional work via service reception or direct customer contact
  • Ensure 100% sign-off on Pre-MOT inspections
  • Identify warranty items and ensure correct documentation
  • Supervise, develop, and train the workshop team
  • Audit job packs ready for administration and invoicing
  • Monitor workshop loading and ensure continuity
  • Measure technician activity and performance
  • Maintain special tools and equipment
  • Ensure workshop cleanliness and organisation
  • Handle customer complaints quickly and effectively
  • Supervise junior staff and identify training needs
  • Manage workshop apprentices from training and wellbeing perspective
  • Ensure all company policies and statutory requirements are met

What You’ll Need

  • Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (NVQ/City & Guilds/IMI)
  • Previous experience as a senior technician
  • Supervisory experience in a workshop environment
  • Process-driven with strong technical background
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and organisational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask
  • Great communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Full UK driving licence for relevant vehicle classes
