About the Role

About the role:

A supportive and inclusive school in Bradford is seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 SEND Support Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from September. This rewarding role involves providing individualised support to a pupil with SEND, helping them to access learning, build confidence, and achieve their full potential within the classroom and wider school environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and parents to provide consistent support tailored to the pupil’s individual needs. This will be on a temporary basis but have the potential to be a permanent role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with SEND throughout the school day.
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet the pupil’s individual needs and learning style.
  • Support the pupil to engage in lessons, follow instructions, and participate in classroom activities.
  • Implement strategies recommended by teachers and external professionals to support learning and development.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction.
  • Assist with communication, sensory, and emotional needs where required.
  • Monitor and record the pupil’s progress, providing feedback to teaching staff and SENCOs.
  • Support the pupil during transitions, break times, educational visits, and extracurricular activities as needed.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and self-esteem while providing appropriate levels of support.

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND, either within a school, care, youth work, or similar setting.
  • Understanding of a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language Needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Patience, resilience, and a nurturing approach to supporting children with additional needs.
  • Experience delivering 1:1 support is desirable but not essential.
  • Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Health & Social Care, or equivalent experience are desirable.
