About the role

This is an excellent opportunity to join Digital Services as an Entry Level Analyst focusing on Cyber Security. To see where the office sits within the organisation, you can view our organisation chart here.

Digital Services is responsible for developing and maintaining the IT services and underlying infrastructure that support and enable the business of the Parliament and its Members.

The office supports approximately 1700 network users across Holyrood and the remote support of constituency and regional offices. Our environment is predominantly Windows and Microsoft Office 365, with bespoke business applications in use by the parliamentary service. 

The office organisational structure has three main elements: Infrastructure, Business Applications and Resources/Governance. The role is located in the Infrastructure function of Digital Services in the Cyber Security team. This team is responsible for the first, second and third-line delivery of high quality, customer focused support and contains specialisms in IT Helpdesk, Desktop Support, Telephony, Servers, Networks and Mobile Devices.

Digital Services is placing an increased emphasis on strengthening and enhancing cyber security to address the growing and evolving risks presented online. Throughout the COVID‑19 pandemic, we successfully demonstrated our ability to maintain the core functions of Parliament while ensuring a secure working environment across both Holyrood and remote locations. We now aim to build on this progress to effectively support future hybrid working.

As an Entry Level Analyst you will provide first line support for incidents, monitor security alerts, investigate incidents, and remediate, ensuring security best practice, and support colleagues across Digital Services and the wider organisation to ensure a secure and resilient environment.

About you

The successful candidate will be experienced in providing effective technical advice to customers. Though demonstrable experience is more important than formal qualifications, you will have a thorough understanding of IT infrastructure in general and cyber security in particular.

You will be responsible for the prioritisation and progress of day to day tasks within the Cyber team, investigating incidents, analysing, tracking, and documenting. You will be familiar with the associated terminology, tools and techniques. You will be required to communicate well verbally and in writing, and an ability to respond calmly and efficiently under pressure will be required and you may have to respond quickly to urgent events and without complete information to hand.

The nature of the role is such that you may need, from time to time, to carry out confidential investigations.  You will need to be able to demonstrate a record of reliability, honesty, discretion and personal integrity.

You will have a solid understanding of the legislative and regulatory environment relating to information management and governance (for example data protection legislation).

The successful candidate will provide feedback to colleagues working on the IT Helpdesk to help them to improve their performance and the service that they provide, sharing information and assisting others with calls.

Stage 2

If your application is successful, you’ll be invited to attend a virtual interview.  As part of the interview there will be an assessment.  The Interview and Assessment will be held on Thursday 30 July 2026, although this is subject to change.

Offers will be awarded based on merit. For this role, the following weighting is used to come to a final score on which offers will be based. Application 20%, Assessment 30%, Interview 50%.
