Manages and authorizes engineering design projects within a Indiana Gas region, including customer growth, system improvements, modernization and public improvement projects ensuring all work complies with DOT regulations outlined in CFR 192. Provides final engineering approval for projects within authority levels defined by company policy. Collaborates with managers across the state and other regions on engineering matters and ensures alignment of engineering practices. Offers strong leadership and direction to the department, while fostering staff development through training, mentoring, and leadership opportunities.
Essential Functions
Manages and authorizes engineering design projects for a Indiana Gas region including new customer mains, service lines, system improvement and public improvement projects, city gate stations, system regulation, large customer facilities projects
Ensures that designs are safe, reliable, functional, economically viable and comply with DOT CFR 192 , current Pipeline Safety and Hazardous Materials Administration (PHMSA) regulations and other applicable federal, state and local statues and rules related to gas utility design and installation.
Provides final engineering approval for projects within approval limits established by company policy
Manages workflow responsible for creation of service work orders, designs and other project related documents for the region including permits, specifications, and reports for customers, contractors and others. Monitors workflow process to ensure adherence to company requirements regarding compliance, turnaround, etc. Reviews and take actions to support continuous improvement of the process.
Monitors and approves monthly reports involving expense accounts, cost centers, Capital Expense approvals, capital budget review and variance reporting.
Assists in capital and expense budget preparation and manages these budgets for the organization reporting to this position
Meets with customers contractors, government representatives, employees and other management as required and has the authority to make decisions for the company in such meetings within approval limits.
Provides technical support for regulatory filings
Coordinates to ensure open communications with other departments within the state Gas Operations Region including Rates, Regulatory, Finance and others.
Provides engineering support to departments within the state and to other regions regarding engineering related issues.
Supervises and develops employee. Sets department and individual goals aligned with company goals. Reviews performance and coaches when improvement is needed.
Oversees training of new and current employees to ensure appropriate training is received for assigned responsibilities. Provides development and leadership opportunities appropriate for staff position level.
Education Description
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
Experience
Requires a minimum of 7 years of experience in gas utility design or related project construction design including leadership responsibilities
