Locum Paralegal

Locum Paralegal – South West Local Authority – 6 months + - Hybrid Working - £20-25 /hr Umbrella

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Paralegal or Legal Assistant to join a Devon based Local Authority on an interim basis.

This is a full-time position, offered for an initial term of 6 months (any extensions agreed thereafter), and is to start as soon as possible. Candidates will be expected to attend the office in Devon at least twice a week.

This position offers a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience working with a dedicated Local Authority Legal team, across a variety of areas including Planning, Property and Litigation. Previous Local Authority experience is beneficial for this position, but by no means essential.

Duties and responsibilities may include:

• Providing advice on routine and simple legal issues and cases
• Researching and understanding relevant areas of the law to ensure Council policies and procedures remain compliant
• Keeping up to date with changes in legislation
• Preparing bundles for court/tribunal hearings
• Managing case files and maintaining legal records
• Requesting Court-directed disclosure
• Assisting with Business Support matters within the Council
• Establishing and maintaining good working relationships, both with clients and other members of staff.
• Any other duties appropriate to the grade as may be assigned by one of the Legal Service Managers

The successful candidate will have achieved a good standard of general education, with GCSE grades A to C (or equivalent) in English and Maths. Good interpersonal skills are essential as are ICT skills with usual Microsoft Office packages and the ability to be administratively self-sufficient.

An umbrella rate of up to £25 per hour is offered for this position.
