The Learning Support Teacher at Saint Christopher School plays a crucial role in providing personalized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs.
Overview:
As a Learning Support Teacher, you will work closely with students, educators, and parents to ensure that all students, including those with diverse learning needs, have access to quality education and support services. Your role will involve implementing specialized teaching strategies, communicating with parents, and collaborating with teachers and other education professionals to create an inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
Assessment and Evaluation:
Collaborate with educational psychologists and other specialists to evaluate students' cognitive, academic, and behavioral needs.
Individualized and Education Planning:
Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure that IEP/504 goals are effectively implemented and monitored. Modify curriculum materials and instructional methods to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
Instruction and Support:
Provide direct instruction to students with special needs, either in a resource room setting or within inclusive classrooms. Adapt teaching strategies, materials, and assessments to accommodate students' individual learning styles and abilities. Offer academic support, remediation, and enrichment activities to help students achieve their learning goals.
Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, and support staff to coordinate services and resources for students with special needs. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to discuss students' progress, concerns, and goals. Participate in team meetings, professional development activities, and workshops to enhance your skills and knowledge in special education practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's, Master's degree or certification in Special Education or a related field. State certification or licensure as a Special Education Teacher. Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including those with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and other exceptionalities. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the academic and social-emotional growth of all students.
