Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Electrician IV to support Facilities Operations & Maintenance (O&M) within a secure government environment. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing industrial electrical distribution systems, power generation components, lighting systems, and facility infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable operations.
This position requires advanced technical expertise in high- and low-voltage systems, preventive maintenance, electrical diagnostics, safety compliance, and infrastructure reliability.
Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical Systems Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Perform daily operational checks and preventive maintenance on electrical distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), bus ducts, and control panels
Troubleshoot and repair variable frequency drives (VFDs), air handling units (AHUs), motors, automatic transfer switches (ATS), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), industrial lighting systems, and low-voltage lighting systems
Conduct load analysis, voltage testing, continuity testing, and system performance diagnostics
Maintain and repair secondary distribution lines, multi-phase AC circuits, power and control circuits, and low-voltage wiring systems
Installation, Design & System Upgrades
Design and install electrical lines, circuits, panels, and equipment in compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 70E standards
Determine routing, conductor sizing, load balancing, grounding, and safe operational parameters for electrical systems
Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, logic diagrams, and control drawings, including redline updates
Support new equipment installations, system upgrades, and facility improvement projects
Preventive Maintenance & Compliance
Perform infrared thermography (IR) surveys on panels, switchboards, transformers, MCCs, VFDs, and related equipment per Master Preventive Maintenance Plan
Inspect and maintain electrical PPE and test equipment to ensure calibration and certification compliance
Identify and document unsafe working conditions, ensuring adherence to OSHA safety standards and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
Conduct monthly safety inspections and complete required safety and equipment training
Facilities Support & Emergency Response
Respond to emergency situations involving electrical failures, environmental events, and infrastructure disruptions
Maintain proper housekeeping and support cross-functional coordination with other skilled trades
Document electrical evaluations, assessments, and system findings
Establish and maintain spare parts inventory management for lighting and electrical components
Leadership & Collaboration
Mentor junior technicians and provide technical guidance
Communicate unique operational challenges to Lead Technicians and Facilities Supervisors
Support continuous improvement initiatives within a secure government facility environment
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum five (5) years of experience in the electrical trade (seven (7) years preferred)
Advanced knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and electrical safety compliance standards
Extensive experience with high-voltage and low-voltage electrical distribution systems
Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and electrical diagnostic/test equipment
Ability to perform load calculations and electrical system sizing computations
Experience performing infrared electrical inspections and preventive maintenance programs
Availability for emergency call-ins and after-hours support
Ability to pass annual Fit-for-Duty physical and respirator fit testing
Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and operate in confined spaces
Active Secret security clearance
U.S. Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
OSHA 10 certification
Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and industrial control systems
Experience working in laboratory environments, including fume hoods and specialized lab infrastructure
Work Environment
This role operates in both indoor and outdoor industrial environments that may include exposure to temperature extremes, electrical energy, dust, fumes, oils, moving machinery, and elevated work surfaces. The position requires standing, bending, lifting (up to 50+ pounds), climbing ladders, and working on raised platforms for extended periods.
