A nurturing and inclusive Primary SEND School in Peterborough is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Personal Care Assistant to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis from September. The school supports children with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, providing a safe, engaging, and supportive environment where every pupil is encouraged to reach their full potential. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children’s wellbeing, independence, and daily care needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality personal care support, including assistance with toileting, hygiene, dressing, feeding, and mobility, while maintaining pupils’ dignity and independence.
  • Support pupils throughout the school day, ensuring their physical, emotional, and personal needs are met.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, helping them feel safe, valued, and supported.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and therapists to ensure pupils can fully access learning opportunities and school activities.
  • Support pupils during classroom activities, breaktimes, mealtimes, and educational visits as required.
  • Use a calm and nurturing approach to encourage positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and social development.
  • Follow individual care plans, risk assessments, and safeguarding procedures at all times.
  • Record and report any concerns relating to pupils’ welfare, health, or development.

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience supporting children or young people within education, care, residential, healthcare, or similar settings.
  • Confidence in providing personal care and supporting individuals with varying levels of need.
  • Understanding of SEND and the importance of promoting independence, inclusion, and pupil wellbeing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • A patient, caring, and resilient approach to supporting children with additional needs.
  • Relevant qualifications such as Health & Social Care, Childcare, Teaching Assistant, Care Certificate, or equivalent experience are desirable.
  • A genuine passion for helping children thrive and achieve their full potential.
