Semi-Skilled Mechanical Fitter<br><br><strong>Location:</strong> <em>Bedford</em><br><strong>Job Type:</strong> Permanent, Full-Time<br><strong>Salary:</strong> £35,000 - £42,000<em>, dependent on experience</em><br><br>About the RoleWe are seeking a motivated and hands-on <strong>Semi-Skilled Mechanical Fitter</strong> to join a busy Hydrostatic Testing and Fettling Department within a leading engineering and manufacturing environment.<br><br>Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll play a key role in the organisation, testing and preparation of pump components, ensuring production schedules and quality standards are met. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a mechanical background who enjoys practical work and wants to develop their skills within a supportive workshop environment.<br><br>In addition to day-to-day testing and fettling activities, you will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and help maintain a safe, clean and efficient workplace.<br><br>Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Carry out hydrostatic (pressure) testing of pump components in line with production schedules and build requirements.<br><br></li><ul><li>Identify and resolve issues during testing using a practical and proactive approach.<br><br></li><li>Perform fettling of small and large pump components, preparing them for the next stage of production.<br><br></li><li>Shape and finish impellers and other components using a variety of hand-held power tools.<br><br></li><li>Read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, checklists and visual aids.<br><br></li><li>Complete dimensional inspection records, pressure test reports and quality documentation accurately.<br><br></li><li>Operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks to move large or heavy components safely around the workshop.<br><br></li><li>Load and unload deliveries and dispatch vehicles when required.<br><br></li><li>Support the Pump Assembly Team with component sub-assemblies, painting and fettling activities as needed.<br><br></li><li>Assist with the construction and removal of bespoke test assemblies.<br><br></li><li>Follow all Health, Safety, Environmental and Welfare procedures at all times.<br><br></li><li>Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support workshop operations.<br><br></li></ul></ul>About You Experience & Qualifications<ul><li>Previous experience within a mechanical assembly, fitting or manufacturing environment.<br><br></li><ul><li>Experience working to production schedules and deadlines.<br><br></li><li>Pressure testing experience or similar mechanical testing experience is desirable.<br><br></li><li>Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.<br><br></li><li>Experience completing manufacturing, inspection and quality-related documentation.<br><br></li><li>Overhead Crane certification is advantageous (training can be provided).<br><br></li><li>Forklift Truck certification is advantageous (training can be provided).<br><br></li><li>Good understanding of health and safety within a workshop or manufacturing environment.<br><br></li></ul></ul>Skills & Attributes<ul><li>Mechanically minded with strong practical skills.<br><br></li><ul><li>Excellent attention to detail.<br><br></li><li>Able to work independently and under minimal supervision.<br><br></li><li>A proactive approach with strong problem-solving abilities.<br><br></li><li>Reliable, trustworthy and dependable.<br><br></li><li>Strong team player with a positive attitude.<br><br></li><li>Good verbal and written communication skills.<br><br></li><li>Committed to quality, safety and continuous improvement.<br><br></li><li>Able to work effectively to deadlines and production targets.<br><br></li></ul></ul>What's on Offer<ul><li>Permanent, full-time opportunity.<br><br></li><ul><li>Competitive salary.<br><br></li><li>Training and development opportunities.<br><br></li><li>Supportive and collaborative team environment.<br><br></li><li>Opportunity to work on specialist engineering products.<br><br></li><li>Career progression within a well-established manufacturing business.<br><br></li></ul></ul><strong>If you have a mechanical background and are looking for a hands-on role within a dynamic engineering environment, we'd love to hear from you.
