About the role:
Justteachers is seeking a full-time Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in the Newark area starting in September 2026 on a long-term, temporary basis.
The setting supports pupils with a range of special educational needs, including Autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, and associated communication and behavioural difficulties. The provision delivers a structured and supportive learning environment in line with EHCPs, focusing on engagement, routine, and personalised learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare and deliver adapted learning activities to meet the needs of pupils with SEN
- Lead lessons in the absence of the class teacher and provide classroom cover where required
- Implement EHCP targets, IEPs and structured teaching approaches
- Support pupils’ emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement in learning
- Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists and external professionals to support pupil progress
- Monitor, assess and record pupil development and attainment
Pre-requisites:
- HLTA status or relevant Level 4 qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Experience supporting pupils with SEN, ideally within a specialist or alternative provision setting
- Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and communication approaches
- Ability to lead learning confidently and adapt to individual pupil needs
- Two professional school or education-based references covering the last two years
