Become part of something greater by applying your experience, input, and leadership—as a clinician and healthcare expert.</p><p> </p><br/><h2>Job Description</h2><br/><ul><li>Join a multifaceted team that covers neurosurgery, neurocritical care, and elective neurosurgery cases.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">The Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP)’s primary role will cover neuro IR procedures and neurosurgery day shift.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">This position is seeking a very procedurally driven individual.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">The role will include completing thorough H and P's, consents, care coordination, assisting with neuro interventional procedures, and neurosurgery day shift coverage.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">The APP will be trained to cover all aspects of the neuroscience team.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">The APP will have the opportunity to cross cover other APP lead service lines.</li><li>Performs routine and expanded job descriptions as listed in the provider's delegation agreement on file with the Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing. Under the direction of a physician, the APP will:</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services to critically ill patients.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Obtain medical histories, examines patients, rounds daily, orders and interprets tests, makes initial diagnoses, and orders treatments. </li><li class="ql-indent-1">Communicate effectively with attending physicians, other medical teams, team members, and patients and their families.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Administer therapeutic procedures such as placement of intracranial monitoring systems, extra ventricular drains, VP shunt taps, suturing, and wound care.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Instructs and counsels patients and families.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">May first assist in the operating room when necessary.</li><li>Demonstrates competence and skill in required tasks and procedures.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Demonstrates knowledge of and competency in required subspecialty.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Completes at least 50 hours of Category I CME every two years. Complete 32 hours of trauma related CME and 16 hours of stroke related CME.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Performs according to Maryland Board of Physician or Board of Nursing standards and expanded job description procedural protocols.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Maintains a procedure complication rate less than the national average.</li><li>Facilitates excellence in quality assurance and the delivery of patient care as part of our High Reliability Organization.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Provides optimal quality of patient care while following safety guidelines,</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Contributes to cohesive group relations; uses open communication to resolve problems in and between departments.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Demonstrates commitment to professional department and organizational core values</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Follows Capital Region Health’s High Reliability Organization principles of patient safety, zero harm, professionalism, and mutual respect for patients, families, and coworkers.</li><li>Participates in APP Council meetings, Neuroscience team meetings, APP and Neuroscience team educational opportunities, and other learning opportunities as they arise.</li><li>Engages in leadership activities including but not limited to APP representation on committees, training and education of other APPs, or specific event or team</li></ul><br/><h2>Qualifications</h2><br/><ul><li>PAs: Bachelor’s degree, graduation from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program, and certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician’s Assistants are required. Candidate must hold an active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Physicians.</li><li>NPs: Bachelor’s degree, RN experience, and completion of Acute Nurse Practitioner degree. Candidate must hold an active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Nursing.</li><li>One year of neurosurgery or neurocritical care experience is preferred.</li><li>Credentialing must be obtained from UM Capital Region Health’s Medical Staff Office and maintenance of BLS /ACLS certification is required.
