About the role:
A supportive and inclusive SEND school in Peterborough is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from between September to December. This role would be ideal for someone with experience supporting children within an EYFS curriculum who is looking to transfer their skills to working with older students with SEND.
The school provides tailored support for learners with a range of additional needs, helping them develop academically, socially, and emotionally. Staff work together to create a structured, nurturing environment where students can build confidence, independence, and essential life skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support teachers in delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of older pupils with SEND.
- Adapt learning activities and break down tasks into manageable steps to help students access the curriculum successfully.
- Use a range of strategies, including visual supports, modelling, practical activities, and clear communication, to encourage participation and understanding.
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support, reinforcing key learning objectives and promoting student confidence.
- Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and independence through consistent, patient, and supportive guidance.
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where students feel valued and motivated to achieve their potential.
Pre-requisites:
- Previous experience working with children in an EYFS, school, nursery, childcare, youth work, or educational setting.
- An understanding of how to support learners with additional needs and adapt approaches to meet individual requirements.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Confidence supporting learning through structured activities, clear instructions, and practical demonstrations.
- Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, Childcare qualification, Youth Work qualification, or equivalent transferable experience.
- A willingness to learn, develop new skills, and support older students as they progress through their education.
