BettingJobs is working with a well-established iGaming group seeking to onboard an experienced
Chief Technology Officer. This role is open to being based in
Malta or Estonia.
As Group Chief Technology Officer you will be the most senior technology leader responsible for strategic leadership and hands-on execution oversight across all the groups brands. You will be responsible for leading and aligning all technology functions— including platform engineering, infrastructure, blockchain and wallet technology, data engineering, security, and product delivery. You will set the technical vision and roadmap for the group, ensuring our platforms are built to scale, engineered for performance, hardened for security, and designed to deliver exceptional experiences to millions of players across the world's most competitive iGaming markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technology Vision & Strategy - Define and own the group-wide technology vision, strategy and multi-year roadmap across all group brands and products.
- Stay at the forefront of emerging technologies — blockchain, AI, real-time data, cloud-native infrastructure — and identify opportunities to leverage them for competitive advantage
- Platform Engineering & Architecture - Own the overall platform architecture across sportsbook, casino, payments, loyalty and customer-facing products for the group's brands.
- Drive the evolution from monolithic to microservices or event-driven architectures where appropriate to improve scalability, resilience and deployment velocity
- Champion engineering best practices across all teams — clean code, test coverage, peer review, documentation and continuous improvement
- Blockchain & Crypto Infrastructure - Own the group's entire blockchain and crypto infrastructure strategy — node management, wallet architecture, sweep operations, gas management, on-chain transaction handling and most importantly secret keys.
- Lead the evaluation and implementation of new blockchain networks and digital assets as the group expands its crypto offering
- Drive the strategic decision-making around build vs buy for crypto infrastructure components — including the assessment of third-party solutions.
- Infrastructure, DevOps & Cloud - Own the group's cloud infrastructure strategy across all environments and brands
- Ensure infrastructure is architected for high availability, disaster recovery, auto-scaling and cost efficiency
- Define and enforce DevOps standards — CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, containerisation, monitoring and alerting
- Oversee SRE and on-call practices, ensuring rapid incident response and continuous improvement through post-mortem processes
- Enterprise IT & Internal Systems - Own and govern the group's enterprise IT strategy, overseeing the selection, implementation and lifecycle management of all internal systems and tooling across the group — including collaboration, CRM, ERP, HRIS and BI platforms
- Define and enforce group-wide IT policies, access controls and governance frameworks — including identity and access management (IAM), single sign-on (SSO) and privileged access management (PAM) across all brands and systems
- Security & Compliance - Own the group's information security strategy, ensuring all platforms and infrastructure meet the highest standards of security across all brands and markets
- Team Leadership & Culture - Lead, inspire and develop a globally distributed engineering organisation across multiple functions and time zones
- Define and embed an engineering culture of excellence, ownership, continuous learning and psychological safety
- Own engineering headcount planning, hiring strategy and talent pipeline development
- Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular reviews and ensure every engineer has a meaningful development plan
Requirements: - Proven track record as a CTO, VP Engineering, or equivalent senior technical leader in a real-money online gaming, betting, payments, or fintech business operating at meaningful scale.
- Deep, hands-on familiarity with modern microservices architectures, GraphQL or comparable API gateway patterns, and the operational realities of running services across multiple cloud regions.
- Direct experience with payments infrastructure — ideally including crypto payment rails, wallet-based flows, and the fraud/compliance controls that come with them.
- Experience rebuilding or strengthening an engineering organisation coming out of a restructuring, downsizing, or acquisition — someone who has done this before, not just managed steady-state teams.
- Strong commercial instincts: comfortable making and defending build-vs-buy calls, negotiating with vendors, and communicating technical trade-offs in plain English to non-technical senior stakeholders.
- Experience operating within a multi-entity or group corporate structure, balancing divisional autonomy with group-level standards and consolidation initiatives.
