About the Role
Senior Powertrain Engineer
As a senior powertrain engineer, you will be part of a team that is responsible for calibrating vehicle parameters that have a direct impact on the acceleration characteristics, shift performance, fuel economy and powertrain behavior of Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles for the North American market. In this position, you will utilize in-vehicle testing, customer research, and subjective performance evaluation in defining and achieving targets. Subject propulsion systems include internal combustion and hybrid-electric, in a variety of vehicle segments.
What You Will Do
Define transmission performance character and performance targets for HMG brand and individual powertrain segment.
Develop transmission performance calibration for HEV, PHEV and ICE powertrain applications for North America.
Lead proving ground and on-road vehicle test and calibration activities, including extreme weather, off-road, and towing validation.
Formulate countermeasure strategies and proposals to enhance vehicle drivability characteristics
Support creation and maintenance of test procedures, calibration guides, and development guides.
Calibration release document (DCM, CSV) to calibration manager before calibration fix milestones.
Lead validation of vehicle performance on-road in extreme cold, extreme hold and towing conditions.
Ensure that all drivability performance development activities adhere to internal quality standards.
Manage vehicle test events, including proving ground tests, cross-functional seasonal tests (hot/cold), chamber/dyno tests, and towing tests.
Support NA headquarters with all-electric vehicle drivability-related inquiries and issues.
Support quality initiatives, root cause analysis, issue resolution, and recurrence prevention of drivability issues for HMG brand vehicles.
Support benchmarking investigations and monitor technology trends for North American light-duty HEV, PHEV and ICE powertrain applications.
Competitor vehicle benchmark and controls analysis.
Collaborate with vehicle test teams and controls teams to enhance vehicle integration and controls software development.
Logic review and improvement in collaboration with controls development team.
Develop vehicle performance modeling/simulation tools and automated test data analysis tools.
What You Will Bring to the Role
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field of study
8+ years of experience in automotive testing, calibration or controls development.
Experience in powertrain controls calibration / logic development
Expertise in powertrain systems and knowledge of performance testing and validation processes required
Strong understanding of ICE and HEV powertrain systems and vehicle dynamics
Background in prototype vehicle on-road testing and performance measurement
Excellent computer skills and experience in measurement and calibration with ETAS/Vector tools - INCA/MDA/Canoe
Working knowledge of vehicle communication networks (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.)
Proficiency with simulation and controls development tools, such as MATLAB/Simulink
Strong analytical skills and data-driven decision-making abilities
Proficiency in planning, executing, and closing projects
Flexibility in handling multiple projects concurrently

Range of Position: $98,000 ~ $125,000/Year
