About the Role

CoreCivic is currently seeking Physician who have a passion for providing the highest quality care in an institutional setting.The Primary Care Physician is responsible for providing comprehensive primary healthcare services to incarcerated individuals within a correctional facility. This includes diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, managing preventive care, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services within a medical home model. The successful applicant should be able to perform ALL of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements.Primary Healthcare Services:<ul><li>Conduct thorough medical evaluations, physical examinations, and medical histories for incarcerated individuals</li><li>Diagnose and treat a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and infections. </li><li>Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, prescribing appropriate medications, therapies, and interventions. </li><li>Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as pharmaceuticals, laboratory work, radiological examinations, and screenings. Provide vaccinations, perform health screenings, and promote preventive care measures within the correctional population. </li><li>Basic technical skills such as suturing, splinting and injections.</li></ul> Chronic Disease Management:<ul><li>Monitor and manage chronic diseases prevalent among incarcerated individuals, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, HIV/AIDS, and Hepatitis C. </li><li>Ensure proper medication management, including prescribing, adjusting dosages, and monitoring treatment effectiveness. </li><li>Educate patients on disease management strategies, lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence.</li><li>Collaborate with specialty care providers for consultations and referrals, when necessary.</li></ul>Emergency Medical Services:<ul><li>Respond to medical emergencies within the correctional facility, providing immediate assessment, stabilization, and necessary interventions. </li><li>Coordinate with emergency medical services or arrange for transfers to external medical facilities, when required.</li><li>Participate in emergency preparedness planning and training exercises to ensure efficient emergency response within the correctional setting</li></ul>Collaboration and Coordination:<ul><li>Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, dentists, social workers, and other correctional staff, to ensure coordinated and integrated healthcare delivery.</li><li>Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, providing necessary information, consultations, and referrals.</li><li> Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance the overall healthcare delivery system.</li></ul>Documentation and Compliance:<ul><li>Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including patient histories, diagnoses, treatments, and medications administered. </li><li>Adhere to patient confidentiality regulations and ensure the security and privacy of medical records.</li><li>Comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing correctional healthcare and professional ethical standards.</li></ul>Professional Development:<ul><li>Stay updated with the latest advancements in primary care, correctional medicine, and relevant healthcare regulations. </li><li>Engage in continuous professional development activities. </li><li>Provide training and education to correctional staff on primary healthcare topics, as needed. </li></ul> Qualifications: <ul><li style="font-size: 12px; font-family: "Segoe UI", Arial, sans-serif;">Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution. </li><li style="font-size: 12px; font-family: "Segoe UI", Arial, sans-serif;">Current and unrestricted medical license to practice medicine in the state/jurisdiction where the correctional facility is located and DEA</li><li style="font-size: 12px; font-family: "Segoe UI", Arial, sans-serif;">Valid state identification.</li><li style="font-size: 12px; font-family: "Segoe UI", Arial, sans-serif;"> Experience in primary care, preferably with experience in correctional medicine or working with underserved populations. </li><li style="font-size: 12px; font-family: "Segoe UI", Arial, sans-serif;">Strong diagnostic and clinical skills, with the ability to manage a diverse range of acute and chronic medical conditions. </li><li style="font-size: 12px; font-family: "Segoe UI", Arial, sans-serif;">Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills. </li><li style="font-size: 12px; font-family: "Segoe UI", Arial, sans-serif;">Ability to work effectively in a challenging and dynamic environment.</li></ul>CoreCivic is a Drug-Free Workplace and EOE – including Disability/Veteran
