About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled HVDC Grid Systems Expert to join our dynamic team at the forefront of the energy transition. You will play a critical role in the design, analysis, and integration of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems into the UK and wider European power grid. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to some of the most significant grid innovation and decarbonisation projects in the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead technical assessments and feasibility studies for HVDC grid projects.
Provide expert input into the design, specification, and integration of HVDC systems including VSC and LCC technologies.
Interface with transmission system operators (TSOs), regulators, and project developers to align technical requirements.
Model and analyse HVDC grid behaviour using advanced power systems simulation tools.
Support tender evaluations and contribute to the development of technical standards and guidance.
Contribute to cross-functional teams working on interconnectors, offshore wind integration, and future grid planning.
Requirements:
Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
Proven experience in HVDC systems design, operation, and integration.
Deep understanding of HVDC converter technologies (VSC/LCC), control systems, and protection strategies.
Experience with grid simulation tools such as PSCAD, PowerFactory, PSS®E or EMT-type software.
Familiarity with UK/EU grid codes and regulatory environments.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to stakeholders.
Desirable:
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
Experience with offshore wind or cross-border interconnection projects.
Involvement in innovation or research projects related to flexible grids or hybrid AC/DC systems.
