Chief Automotive Technician
Hyundai's North America Quality Center (NAQC) is looking for a Chief Technician for the Facilities and Support Team.
The Team:
NAQC is the quality arm for Hyundai Motor Group (HMG)'s North American vehicle models. NAQC seeks to further Hyundai's goal of becoming the leading automotive manufacturer in North America by delivering uncompromising quality and exceeding consumer expectations.
The Position:
The Chief Automotive Technician is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the service shop, ensuring high-quality repair and maintenance work, and providing technical leadership to the technician team. This role combines advanced hands-on technical expertise with supervisory responsibilities, ensuring compliance with safety standards, efficiency in workflow, and shop cleanliness for repair efficiency.
What You Will Do:
Serve as the working shop foreman, supervising and supporting the technician team.
Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia vehicles, including electrical, mechanical, body, and electronic systems.
Ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications, safety protocols, and quality standards.
Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to enhance team skill development.
Maintain accurate service records, repair documentation, and manage inventory for parts, tools, and equipment.
Coordinate with management to prioritize and schedule work orders to meet deadlines.
Inspect completed work for accuracy and adherence to company and industry standards.
Oversee shop workflow to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and safety.
Inspect and maintain internal company fleet vehicles.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in accordance with all safety regulations.
Stay current with automotive technology and industry trends, sharing knowledge with the team.
Assist with recruiting and onboarding new technicians to build a skilled workforce.
Promote a positive, collaborative work culture that encourages teamwork and engagement.
What You Will Bring to the Role:
Basic Qualifications:
Associate's degree in automotive or industrial technology
10+ years of automotive repair experience, including advanced diagnostics.
At least 3+ years in a lead technician or working shop foreman type role.
Experience with modern diagnostic tools and OEM repair procedures.
Experience with vehicle systems (i.e., engine, transmission, HVAC, powertrain, EV, chassis, trim, body, electrical, and infotainment)
Expert knowledge of automotive systems (engine, transmission, electrical, HVAC, etc.)
Proficiency in diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting.
Proficiency in Microsoft programs, such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Ability to communicate effectively with team members and management.
Comfortable working in a shop or warehouse environment, which may include the following:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in a physically demanding environment.
Exposure to noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures in a shop setting.
Occasional travel up to 10% for training or technical support (domestic and international).
Preferred Qualifications:
ASE Master Technician certification
OEM - Hyundai, Genesis, Kia specific certifications
