Crossing Patrol Wardens

The role of a School Crossing Patrol Warden

The Council provide these patrols as part of its efforts to improve road safety.

Wardens are on duty twice each day, this is usually for :

• 30 minutes before the start of the school day
• 30 minutes after the end of the school day

Wardens receive:

• training to a high standard
• regular visits from their supervisors

This ensures safety standards are being maintained.

Sites without School Crossing Patrols

If a warden can't attend a site, or one becomes vacant, the Council has a team of reserve wardens to provide cover.

Sometimes we can’t provide cover, for example:

• at short notice
• if the regular warden will be absent for some time.

In these events, we will inform any local schools as soon as possible.

What's involved?

By becoming a School Crossing Patrol Warden, you will be:

• working between 6 and 12 hours a week
• earning a good hourly rate plus holiday pay
