<p><em>Note: Participation in pre- and post-summer trainings and program setup meetings is required for all BOCES programs, as directed.</em></p>

<h2><strong>Position Overview</strong></h2>
<p>The Teacher Aide/Paraeducator supports instructional staff in delivering educational services to students with disabilities in a variety of settings. This role involves assisting with instruction, student supervision, behavior support, and daily classroom operations to help create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.</p>

<h2><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></h2>
<p><em>(Note: Responsibilities may vary depending on program assignment.)</em></p>
<ul>
<li>Support classroom instruction for students individually, in small groups, and during assessments (including test proctoring)</li>
<li>Supervise students across multiple settings, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and community environments</li>
<li>Assist with classroom management and behavior monitoring using positive behavior supports and crisis intervention strategies</li>
<li>Implement physical intervention techniques (e.g., Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) when necessary</li>
<li>Prepare instructional materials, classroom projects, and displays</li>
<li>Perform clerical tasks, record keeping, and general classroom organization as directed</li>
<li>Contribute personal skills (e.g., arts, music, recreation, vocational skills) to enhance programming when appropriate</li>
<li>Use basic technology tools, including email, or demonstrate willingness to learn</li>
<li>Accompany students on school buses and support participation in community-based learning activities (e.g., work experiences, field trips, vocational training)</li>
<li>Travel to off-campus activities using a personal vehicle, if required</li>
<li>Assist students in aquatic activities in therapeutic or traditional chlorinated pools</li>
<li>Support students with personal care, mobility, and self-help needs</li>
<li>Attend staff meetings and participate in ongoing professional development</li>
<li>Perform physical tasks required to support students and program needs</li>
<li>Complete additional duties as assigned based on program requirements</li>

<h2><strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong></h2>
<p><strong>Civil Service Eligibility Requirement:</strong><br />
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, plus one of the following:</p>
<ul>
<li>One (1) year of paid or volunteer experience in a clerical role; OR</li>
<li>One (1) year of paid or volunteer experience working with children; OR</li>
<li>Completion of a child care training program through an accredited organization (e.g., occupational school, American Red Cross, or similar); OR</li>
<li>An equivalent combination of the above experience and training</li>

<h2><strong>Physical Requirements</strong></h2>
<p>Candidates must be able to perform essential job functions (with or without reasonable accommodation), including:</p>
<ul>
<li>Implementing physical intervention techniques</li>
<li>Assisting with lifting, transferring, and positioning students</li>
<li>Supporting students who use wheelchairs or require mobility assistance</li>
<li>Escorting students in various environments, including community settings and outdoor activities</li>
<li>Walking, standing, and, in some cases, running after students</li>
</ul>

<h2><strong>Additional Requirements</strong></h2>
<ul>
<li>Commitment to the full 30-day summer program</li>
<li>Mandatory attendance at orientation (date to be determined)</li>
<li>Non-BOCES applicants must provide proof of high school diploma or equivalency (applications without documentation will not be considered)</li>
<li>Successful completion of a background check through NYSED</li>
