About the Role

Consultant in Dermatology Location: Truro, Cornwall, UK Title: Consultant in Dermatology Reports to: Clinical Director for Specialist Services and Surgery Accountable to: The Medical Director Remuneration: NHS National pay scales Job Purpose:  We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Dermatologist to join our well-established clients team.  This full-time position involves providing dermatological care for patients in Cornwall and progressing a sub-specialty interest to complement the team.  The role includes seeing two-week wait patients and maintaining the highest clinical standards in dermatology management. Key Responsibilities:
  • Day-to-day management of the Dermatology Department
  • Teaching and training junior staff and medical students
  • Active participation in continuing medical education (CME)
  • Participation in Clinical Governance and Audit
  • Attendance at relevant meetings
  • Fulfillment of weekly timetable including out-of-hours responsibilities
  • Implementation of sustainable practices to achieve NHS Net Zero target
Department Overview: The Dermatology Department is based in a modern facility in Truro, featuring three operating theatres, an outpatient suite, phototherapy and day treatment areas, and a Mohs laboratory.  The team includes three dermatology consultants, one GU consultant, four associate specialists, and three specialty doctors, supported by a dedicated team of nurses. Specialist Services Offered:
  • Mohs micrographic surgery
  • One-stop “see and treat” skin lesion clinics
  • Paediatric dermatology
  • Cutaneous allergy
  • Modern phototherapy unit
Person Specification:
  • Qualifications: GMC Registration with a license to Practice, MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification.  Higher degree (MD, PhD) and GMC Specialist Register are desirable.
  • Experience: Wide experience in all aspects of Dermatology, teaching, clinical audit, and governance.  Mohs/Surgical Fellowship is desirable.
  • Skills: Strong clinical and personal credibility, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, IT skills, conceptual and analytical skills, fluent English (IELTS level 7.5).
  • Disposition: Flexible, adaptable, collaborative, attention to detail.
  • Additional Circumstances: Satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check, Occupational Health clearance, three satisfactory references, ability to travel within and outside the county.
