About the Role

Celebrating Resident Experience Week

Throughout April, the communities at CHI Living Communities have engaged in a powerful, collective celebration of commitment and connection: Resident Experience Week. This initiative directly acknowledges the profound impact every individual has on the daily lives of residents and their families.

The overarching theme, "We Are All The Resident Experience," underscores a vital truth: from the culinary team to maintenance, nursing staff to administrative support, every single role contributes significantly to the overall happiness, well-being, and sense of home experienced by residents.

"This Resident Experience Week has been about much more than just a pat on the back," explains Mike Gulock, Director of Operational Engagement. "We’ve taken the opportunity to explore our personal 'why' – why does it truly matter to each of us to create a positive experience for our residents? What's the bigger picture impact that resonates personally?"

Throughout the month, participating communities have focused on several key insights:

  • Acts of Kindness: Team members have been encouraged to recognize and celebrate the daily acts of kindness that often go unnoticed. "A warm smile, an extra minute of conversation, helping with a difficult task – these seemingly small gestures create a powerful ripple effect," says Heidi Hoffman, Director of Mission Integration at the Gardens of St. Francis. "It’s about making someone feel seen, heard, and valued."
  • Defining the Resident Experience: The initiative prompted deep reflection on what constitutes a truly exceptional resident experience. It goes beyond medical care and amenities; it encompasses emotional support, social connection, and a sense of belonging. "Our residents' experience is the culmination of every interaction, every moment, every feeling they have within our walls," adds Amber Ludwig, Executive Director at Riverview Place. "It's about crafting a life worth living."
  • Every Role Makes a Difference: The campaign actively highlighted the "unseen work" that is crucial to the residents' quality of life. Whether it’s meticulously cleaned common areas, perfectly timed medications, or a delicious and nutritious meal, each task intertwines to create the holistic care environment. It can often feel easy to get stuck in the daily routine, but this is a great reminder that we are all truly interconnected, and every person makes a difference.
  • The Power of Personal Connection: Delving into the "whys" behind their dedication revealed deeply personal motivations for many staff members. For some, it's a desire to honor their own elders; for others, it's the joy of fostering community. This personal investment translates directly into compassionate and dedicated care.

Appreciating Each Other: A significant aspect of Resident Experience Week has been fostering a culture of mutual appreciation among colleagues. "This week reminds us that we are truly all in this together," Tanya Hollamon at Linus Oakes Village summarizes. "Our collective efforts create the wonderful home our residents cherish. Showing appreciation for each other is key to maintaining that collaborative spirit."

A huge THANK YOU to our phenomenal team that is only growing stronger together! Thank you for your tireless efforts, your warm smiles, and for making every day truly special for our residents. You are the heart and soul of our communities.
